N4G Criticism Of IGN’s Greg Miller Dead Space 2 Review/Review

I have to tell you that I found N4G’s article’s about IGN’s Greg Miller amusing and spot on. N4G made some good points about the article that Miller wrote, and setting aside all the the literary mistakes, a review should be just that, a review. Reviews should not give the game away. Reviews should be an honest opinion of game play, and how well the format of the game worked for the reviewer. That said, I question what motivated N4G to publish the bashing in the first place.

Certainly, the motivation was clearly not to make Mr. Miller a better writer, as N4G does not want to make the competition better. Was the intention to sway IGN readers over to N4G in making IGN writers look bad. I would think that N4G would be happy to see that type of garbage coming out of IGN. Sort of a self destruct apparatus in the enemies camp so to speak. What ever the motivation was is unclear, but it lacked class.

The very notion of gamers deserve more from gaming sites and their writers is ridiculous. gamers do not pay gaming sites for the articles they produce and if one is not happy with a writer don’t read what he writes. Better yet, contact the site and express your displeasure. Apply for his job.

No matter what site you go to, articles are abundant with poor grammar, mis information, mistakes made in proof reading etc. Those that write on the web are for the most part not paid very well. Those that are, are subject to error like anyone else. Comments made about posts rarely have anything positive to say other than to correct the writer for grammar or information that is incorrect. Finding fault in others work is a national pastime. Yet few comments are not without poor grammar and incomplete thought.

Most sites do not have their writers publish through the editor, as it is expected that a writer should proof read and correct mistakes before publishing. For an editor to proof read all articles before publishing would create a big backlog of articles and beating others to the punch for late breaking news would be impossible. Besides, if you removed all error, readers would have little to comment about, there would never be comments.

Those that go to IGN for their gaming info get exactly what they want, Fan Boy crap. As for the reviews from the big gaming sites, take them with a grain of salt as they come equipped with freebies from console manufacturers and game makers alike. Every day is Christmas for these guys and yes, I am jealous.

(Contraction) N4G did not write the article. they just copied and pasted a blog from Reddit, sent in by someone who thought it worthy of more eye contact then it received from Reddit. Although with 28,000 literary critics unemployed, I doubt we need 1 more new one. As far as N4G goes, now I understand how their site works and I applaud their contribution to get worthy news pertaining to gaming to interested readers that may not get to see some real worthy articles. Good job.

After you read both articles, tell me what you make of all this.

A number of things are wrong here. First of all the whole thing started on Reddit where Miller was critisized. N4G is a news aggregator site not a creator of original content so they are not “throwing stones in glass houses”.

The end result was the same, if it was written on Reddit, it should have stayed there. the point of the article is still made and I stand by it. The fact that I read it at N4G makes them as responsible for the editorial as the writer. Maybe N4G should stick to news.
