Tiger Woods 2012 Should Install More Spectator Realism

Over the years, the Tiger Woods series by EA Sports has paid some attention to the spectator portion of the game. Spectators that get dinged by balls hobble around; fall out from head shots, etc. What the game is missing from that aspect of the game though is all the mindless dweebs that chase after cart path balls, over the green shots and in the trees mishaps.

The mindless spectators interfere with the path of the ball and affect the overall outcome of the game, yet if a player so much as breathes on a ball he suffers all kinds of penalties as a result of the infraction. Why spectator interference is tolerated is beyond me, but it is lacking in the quest for realism that EA’s Tiger Woods series has sought after.

I have often wondered why spectators chase after out of play balls in the first place. They remind me of people chasing after $100 bills falling from a window in a high-rise, yet there is no reward to be claimed at the end of the chase. It must stem from boredom or some other social issue only affecting golf spectators. Why not give everyone of the spectators, baseball gloves and let them field miscues by players.

So let’s see if Ea Sports can add to the realism of this spectator sport by giving all the spectators in the game a lobotomy and make their version of Tiger Woods Golf a little more realistic.

While I am on the subject of golf, I watched the first 2 days and early coverage of The Farmers Insurance tournament at Torre Pines on the Golf Channel. The afternoon coverage switched over to CBS. The PGA may want to tell CBS and who ever else carrying their tournaments other than the Golf Channel, to lighten up on commercials of their broadcasts. It is actually downright ridiculous as to the amount of commercials as opposed to golf play, and from now on I think I shall wait for Golf Channel coverage after the fact to view tournament play on Saturday and Sunday. The Intro to tournament coverage after commercials is longer than coverage itself. It is a pretty sad testimonial to golf coverage by the major broadcast companies that provide coverage and is typical. I know that commercials pay bills, but the disparity between coverage and commercials is ruining the enjoyment of viewing, which should be of concern to someone other than the viewer.

Tell me what you think about spectator behavior and broadcast coverage of golf tournaments.

    Seriously, mindless dweebs?

Spectators are running towards the ball so that they might have the chance to see and up close and personal shot from golfers like Tiger and Phil. A lot of the worlds top golfers are exciting to watch when they’re trying something ridiculous out of a difficult position…like when they’re in the trees, or way off of the fairway where they (the gallery) are allowed to watch from a very close distance. Not everything hit off of the fairway is “out of play.” It’s quite a bit different than running out of a high-rise for $100 dollar bills. It would be similar for a baseball fan to watch a batter from the Umpires position. Or a football fan watching a great play from the field.

Duh. I watch and play the game myself and did not need an explanation as to why spectators do what they do. What I was talking about has nothing to do with what you said. I was talking about a ball that is still moving and everyone is chasing after it. You are probably one of those mindless dweebs I was referring to.
