GI Joe Sequel Looking For A Director

According to Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner, the producers of the GI Joe movie franchise are desperately looking for a director to helm the sequel to 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra after original director Stephen Sommers (The Mummy / Van Helsing) walked away from the project.

In an interview with MTV, Goldner revealed…

“It’s in the works! We have a really good script and we’re right now talking to a number of directors,”

On Stephen Sommer’s possible involvement…

“I don’t know if I can comment. I don’t know if the studio has commented yet. But we’re certainly talking to some people.”

The script for GI Joe 2 has been written by Zombieland writers Rhet Reese and Paul Wernick and Goldner seems pretty chuffed with it…

“There is a really great idea in the second G.I. Joe. In many ways, it’ll be great for the people who saw the first one, but you don’t need to have studied every element of the first one to enjoy the second. We’ve made sure that that’s the case.”
