In an interview with MTV, Aerosmith frontman and American Idol judge Steven Tyler revealed that he believes that American Idol has changed the way the music industry works.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer said, in the interview, that he never used to watch American Idol as he believed that music artists should have to gig in order to learn their trade…

“I didn’t watch Idol because I grew up from, you had to play clubs. If you don’t play in front of the people and get your hard knocks from that and get booed, [you don't learn] how to stand up when you fall back down.”

But he conceded that the way auditionees bare their souls in front of the entire nation kind of makes up for the fact that they didn’t go the gigging route like he had to back in the 1970’s when Aerosmith were just beginning their journey.
