Piers Confronts Larry King Over Oversold Remarks
The other day, chatshow legend Larry King made public his belief that his replacement on the CNN channel, Piers Morgan had been oversold to the public at large.
Well, King just so happened to have an appearance booked on Piers Morgan Tonight this past Wednesday so you just knew that Piers, being Piers, wouldn’t let Larry get away with such a comment.
Piers opened with…
“I have spent the last few months saying that following you is like following Frank Sinatra. I couldn’t pay you higher praise! And you go in my backyard and say I’m oversold, undangerous…”
King responded by saying that, in the promos leading up to Morgan’s debut, the adverts clearly stated that the new show would be “dangerous” but as far as he is concerned, he hasn’t seen anything in Piers Morgan Tonight that is even remotely dangerous.
He used the following example to illustrate his point…
“We’re doing four specials for CNN… Suppose I said, ‘This first special will be the greatest special in the history of American television, the best, and dangerous. It’s gonna kill you, this special’… I can’t live up to that.”
Piers interrupted with…
“I’m following a legend! You can’t follow Sinatra in Vegas and say, ‘By the way, I’m not very good and this will be useless’.”
King offered…
“Why can’t you just say, ‘Piers Morgan. I’m coming. Watch me. Or ‘Piers Morgan. Starts next Monday’.”
To which Piers finished with…
“I suppose I have always oversold myself. I quite like doing that; it’s quite funny.”
