According to Deadline, Warner Bros have confirmed that they are going to remake their 90s classic movie The Bodyguard.

In the original, Whitney Houston starred alongside Kevin Costner and saw Costner’s character take over security duties for Houston’s character who was a famous singer. Inevitably, the two fall for each other while a crazed stalker is planning on killing her.

Deadline claim that Warner Bros has hired writers Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer to pen the script.

The remake will focus on a war veteran who returns from Iraq to become a bodyguard and finds his first assignment is to look after a rising female music star. He quickly finds that his job is much harder in this technological age as he has to factor in the security risks from such social networking platforms like Twitter, Facebook and even Google Earth.

Back in 1992, The Bodyguard was a massive hit, taking in over four hundred million dollars at the worldwide box office and spawned a top selling movie soundtrack. Houston’s famous rendition of ‘I Will Always Love You’ went to on top the charts in numerous countries.

Interestingly, the original script, written by Lawrence Kasdan, was supposed to be a vehicle for Hollywood legend Steve McQueen.
