According to Stargate Universe producer Joseph Mallozzi, the depressing (in a good way) sci-fi show could return to our TV screens as a series of television movies.

Stargate Universe was cancelled last December due to poor ratings and the final 10 episodes were put on hold. From tonight, Syfy will begin airing the final ten episodes and Mallozzi hopes that by the time the finale airs in ten weeks, a decision will have been made concerning the possible TV movies.

Mallozzi revealed the following on his blog…

“Hopefully by the time [the season finale, 'Gauntlet'] airs we’ll have definite word on a potential movie or two.”

He described the final episode as…

“a spectacular yet poignant season ender”.

And then added…

“If it’s a go [on the television movies] and fans can look forward to a proper end to Destiny’s mission, then ‘Gauntlet’ will certainly set the stage for a grand conclusion.

“If, on the other hand, things don’t pan out and ‘Gauntlet’ does turn out to be the bittersweet [series] finale, fans will be thrilled, touched, heartbroken… and left to wonder what could have been.”
