Curiosity Review: Could Earth Survive An alien Attack?
Curiosity is a new show on Discovery Channel and this week’s topic was about whether we could survive an alien invasion. The host, Michelle Rodrgiuez, looked into whether this was a possibility or just fiction. She started with three questions: 1. What would happen?. 2. How would we fight them?, and 3. Could we survive. Now, before the questions were answered we had a panel of PHD’s discuss the possibility of life on another planet. All agreed we would be ignorant to think we were the only inhabited planet in the universe. There are just too many planets and solar systems in the Galaxy to think we had a monopoly on life here. So, with that out of the way, it was on to the first question as to what would happen. The panel discussed how our system of looking into space would detect an unnatural object coming towards earth so we would have a warning. I guess they never heard of the “cloaking devices” the Klingons used in Star Trek. No one even gave this thought a minute of their time. Instead, they spent most of the time talking of how we would be devastated by biological agents released by birds, EMP blasts to knock out our communications, and how the aliens would have all this advanced knowledge of us. I like the part where they talked of how a Hydrogen bomb exploded in space is useless because it needs oxygen to work properly. Finally, we see that Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum couldn’t have killed the mother ship like that. The best question was “is this something we should prepare for?” the whole panel agreed that it is better to leave the alien invaders to Sci Fi movies and deal with our own problems here now. I was impressed with this show and will watch it again. I like the format even if they didn’t address the obvious topics any good Sci-Fi fan would have asked. It would have been a lot more interesting to talk of “what could be” in the alien arsenal.

I was disappointed also that certain fictional alien technology was dismissed or was never brought up at all. it was an interesting show though.
