MTV VMA 2011

The 2011 VMA Awards are in full swing and is is an exciting night so far. Jesse J is the trooper here as she is performing with a walking cast on her broken foot. It isn’t affecting her great style at all. We had an opening performance by Lady GaGa and she is very conservatively dressed as a man. She is paying tribute to the “Brat Pack” and she sings her hit song “You and I”. In typical GaGa fashion, she throws her beer at the audience and it gets on the stage. This spelled a little trouble for her as she goes down hard when getting off the top of the piano. She recovers quickly and still doesn’t miss a beat. A little tension comes about when the first guest host, comedian Kevin Hart, bombs badly and even insults L’il Wayne about skateboarding and being black. it is not a funny moment and Wayne looks a little ticked off.

Britney Spears is the first winner tonight in the “Best Pop Video Category” for her video “Til the World Ends”. Jonah Hill and a strangely dressed Nicki Minaj were the presenters. Looks like Britney is back! She does look great tonight and it seems like she is quite a bit thinner. The second award tonight is for “Best rock Video” and it goes to the Foo fighters for their hit “Walk”. Miley Cyrus, who looked stunning, and Sean White did the presenting. Next up was the “Best Hip Hop Video” award and the audience went crazy when Nicki Minaj wins it.

Kanye West and Katy Perry win “Best Collaboration” for their hit “Extraterrestrial.” Kanye is a gentleman tonight and Katy Perry is ecstatic as this is her first VMA. Justin Bieber wins the “Best Male Video” award for his song “U Smile.” He tries to act all “hip hop” but his swagger just doesn’t do it. Britney Spears gets the “Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award” and Lady GaGa presents it to her. GaGa tells Britney how she was an inspiration to her. Beyonce performs next it is now official that she is pregnant. She comes on stage and rips off her top revealing her “baby bump”.

Tyler the Creator wins the “Best New Artist” award and is presented by Selena Gomez and Taylor Lautner. next up is the award for “Best Female Video with a message” and it goes to Lady GaGa for her hit “Born this Way.”

We now get the Amy Winehouse tribute. Russel Brand comes out with and emotional introduction and Tony Bennett also come out to say what a “true Jazz artist” Winehouse was and we get a clip from his duo with her called “Body and Soul”. Now we get Bruno Mars singing Winehouse’s hit “Valerie” and he is nowhere nearly as good as Winehouse. They should pick artists to do these that actually have a chance at being close to the original.

Katy Perry wins “Video of the Year” for her hit “Firework.”

That’s it folks, let us know what you think of the winners of this year’s VMA awards.

Katy Perry came to our small city and was a total rude demanding diva. The gossip was all over town and all over the radio. I heart about her antics from a trusted source and don’t want to say the details. She isn’t that great. My young nieces went to her concert – she is no Amy Winehouse. The true test is when a person is given power and shows the world what they do with it. Many people become arrogant. And usually it is someone that isn’t even deserving of that arrogance. I don’t like the way she treated us. What is a bit of humility on tour. Now this is only one small city in Canada – I’m sure her behavior was consistent in other places. It is unfortunate that she won best video as I don’t support people like this.
