Leila Lopes Miss Universe 2011

The Miss Universe 2011 Pageant brought out a few surprises as smaller countries were the main representatives and larger countries didn’t fare to well. Miss USA wasn’t even in the top ten nor was anyone from Germany, Great Britain. Miss France and Miss Australia did manage a top ten spot. This year’s swimsuit competition was a little toned down from last year with the contestants wearing more “classy” and and less “risque” swimsuits, with the exception of Miss Australia. We got to see Beyonce perform and also Niki Minaj. The fourth runner up was Zilin Luo from China and coming in as the third runner up was Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup. Miss Brazil, Priscilla Machado was the second runner up. It was down to Miss Ukraine and Miss Angola for the title. Miss Ukraine, Olesya Stefanko was announced as the first runner up and this left Leila Lopes, Miss Angola as the winner of the 2011 Miss Universe Crown.
Special Awards were given to the following: Miss Congeniality was given to Nikolina Loncar from Montenegro. Miss Photgenic was won by Sweden’s Ronnia Fornstedt and Sheldry Saez from Panama won for the “Best National Costume”.
Congratulations to Leila Lopes, the 2011 winner of the Miss Universe Crown.

    from the word itself, miss universe, you should know how to speak english… isn’t it our universal language is ENGLISH? they should take note on that…!

    • Angelo says:

      why? is Miss Universe search for the best English speaker? Are they looking for the most intelligent woman in the world? Miss Universe is a beauty pageant and never they require that a candidate should be perfect in speaking English! It’s Miss Universe therefore anybody can use their own language and regardless what your native tongue is, you are a part of the universe and not necessary force yourself to speak in English!

      @Angelo,
      Why What? If you are talking about our reference to the top 5 being a shocker it is because the judges finally stopped catering to the larger countries and truly looked at candidates from all over the world. I was glad to see the smaller countries make the top 5 this year instead of the same ones who seem to get in every year.

    how come its a shocker?would any race are not allowed to win the title?to be in the pageant means their deserves to win.so its not a shocker its called a destiny.bad luck to other country who doesnt bring home the title.

    @Marion,
    It is not a shocker who the winner is. It is a shocker that only France and Australia made it to the top 10. Usually the judges seem to pander to those countries and at least put them in the top ten. I am glad they finally got over themselves and looked at more countries this year. Lots of smaller countries have excellent contestants that haven’t gotten noticed in the past because of what I think is a prejudicial system of judging.
