Does Apple Juice Contain Deadly Arsenic? Dr. Oz Says Yes Government Says No!

Dr. Oz On GMA
TV Talk Show host Doctor Mehmet Oz stirred up a hornet’s nest when he did his show Wednesday and tested different brands of Apple Juice for arsenic. In his show, the Dr. gave out the following results: Minute Maid: 2 to 3 ppm, Apple & Eve (not organic): 3 to 11 ppm, Motts: 4 to 16 ppm, Juicy Juice: 2 to 22 ppm, Gerber: 6 to 36 ppm. With this information Oz scared parents on the show and caused a huge controversy. On ABC’s Good Morning America today (SEE VIDEO BELOW), Dr. Oz faced off with Dr. Besser, who is a health and medical editor for ABC. Besser wouldn’t let Dr. Oz get a word in and tried to make the TV Host look like he was misleading the public and causing unnecessary strife on the public. Besser pointed out, what the FDA had told the Dr. Oz show last week, that there were two types of arsenic. Organic arsenic is not deadly and inorganic arsenic is deadly. Juices and almost everything grown in soil will have small traces of “non deadly” organic arsenic in them as it occurs naturally in the soil. The GMA show this morning also said that the FDA has a limit of 10ppm on inorganic arsenic in drinking water and it tested several of the same brand as Doctor Oz and found none that were higher than 6ppm. Now we went to Dr. Oz’s web site and he did talk a little about the differences in “organic” and “inorganic” but he made it seem clear that deadly arsenic is in a lot of apple juice. Dr. Oz is one of our favorite afternoon TV shows here but this debate highlights how we shouldn’t think of these TV Doctors as the last word in any subject. Does the government hide stuff from us? YES. Is there a Government conspiracy on arsenic levels in apple juice? I doubt it! I know lots of Nerds like me that grew up drinking apple juice and some of us still drink it by the gallon. We are still fine. The video of the exchange on GMA is below. Image at left taken from video.

I thought at any moment the camera would cut to Besser and he would have his fingers stuck deeply into both ears, while humming so as not to hear Dr. Oz at all.
Clearly Besser was concerned about Oz making a logical and poignant argument, as he continually interrupted Dr. Oz at practically every step of the way.
Furthermore, its obvious that Dr. Oz only concern/agenda is to educate the public about where and what is in our food products. To hear that we in the U.S. have higher standards for our apples concerning arsenic, or that organic arsenic may be converted to a toxic variety in the body, seemed to fall on Besser’s deaf ears. This makes me wonder what Besser’s true agenda may be?
