The 23rd season of Survivor premiered tonight with the start of “Survivor South Pacific” and the action was fast and furious with one team member already bring voted off. Tonight started with host Jeff Probst announcing that there were two veterans returning. Ozzy and Coach were brought out and Ozzie went with Savaii Tribe and Coach went to the Upolu Tribe. The first challenge of the night pitted the two veterans against each other. It was a complex competition that required climbing, digging, and puzzle solving skills. Ozzy won for the Savaii Tribe and they got flint to make a fire with. Next, each tribe headed to their base camp. You would think the priority would be to get shelters built to protect from the elements. Upolu Tribe was in a building frenzy and had everybody working hard to get a shelter built. Savaii Tribe talked of laying around and going swimming and seemed like they just didn’t think shelter was important. They did finally get to work when Ozzy started leading finally.
The first immunity challenge was just as complex as the veterans challenge. Contestants had to navigate a maze of coconuts and then scale a huge wall. Once all members of each tribe were over the wall, one member had to dig up a machete and chop through ropes that released coconuts. Three tribe members had to throw the released coconuts into a basket. When the basket had enough coconuts, it would raise the winning Tribe’s Flag. Savaii Tribe started off fast and their teamwork had them all over the wall well ahead of Upolu Tribe. Trouble in tossing the coconuts allowed Upolu to catch up and it was a “neck and neck” race. Upolu wins the competition by one coconut as all there players were “on target” with each throw but Savaii Tribe was let down by Semhar.
Semhar and Cochran are up for eviction and sent to Redemption Island. Semhar is voted off. Now the winners, Upolu tribe get a clue that should lead them to where the “immunity idol” is located. There is one in each camp and as the show goes off, nobody has found an idol yet. Check back next week as we will be bringing you the latest updates on “Survivor South Pacific”.
