Drive is a movie that has many levels. Those expecting just another action film filled with car chases and bloody fight scenes will be delighted but this movie will also please those that like a good multi-dimensional plot to their action films. Director Nicolas Winding Refn does a masterful job at combining action, thrills, and romance to make a well rounded movie that will score a hit with many different types of movie lovers. First, the car chase scenes in this movie are top notch and there are two memorable chases in this movie that will definitely raise the bar for future movies. The opening getaway is fast, furious, and spectacular. As far as thrills go, there are many in this flick and several scenes are showcased by Albert Brooks, who plays a mobster named Bernie Rose. His performance as a “mobster” is a break from his usual “comedic” roles but he is the “sleeper star” of this movie and is one of the characters you will remember in this film. Now most “action” movies never really put together a good “love interest” plot but the subtle nuances and interaction between “Driver”, played by Ryan Gosling, and Irene, played by Carey Mulligan will almost bring tears to your eyes. Drive will remind you of the old “Miami Vice” TV series with its effective “silent” moments that manage to portray the plot better than any line could have. Refn also brings a little “Quentin Tarentino” style will have you laughing where you really shouldn’t be. All in all, “Drive” is one great movie that is sure to do well and we highly recommend it for a great escape into a fantasy world. Watch the official trailer courtesy of You Tube below:
