“I Don’t Know How She Does It” is a one sided rant fest of a movie that constantly harps on how women have the right to a career without ever talking of the “trade offs” involved. Sarah Jessica Parker plays a “do it all” mom whose friends are both jealous and terribly jaded. Allison, played by Christina Hendricks, and Wendy, played by Busy Phillips, are brought out in the film at various times with “interviews” where we get to hear them griping about everything from bad workplace environments to the “hardship” of having to “work out” daily. These interviews don’t mix weel with the movie and are a distraction to what little plot there is in this film. Pierce Brosnan plays the part of “businessman and partner” and his character is filled with stereotypes suggesting that men can’t just have a true “working” relationship. Greg Kinnear is the father who has to take over some more of the parenting responsibilities when his wife gets a new “business opportunity”. Like Brosnan’s role, Kinnear’s character seems based on only one side of a story and never really gets to reveal the problems a working father has to deal with. This movie could have been so much more if it had showcased the things working parents miss out on and how “stay at home” moms have the important task of raising their children. It would have been better for us to see the turmoil a working parent goes through when missing “school functions” or important things in a child’s life like their first haircut. Instead, the movie chose to give us a one sided rant fest that makes for a less than mediocre movie. “I Don’t Know How She Does It” is a movie that you won’t mind missing. You Tube Trailer below:
