Galaxy SII i9100

The Samsung Galaxy SII model i9100 is the perfect phone for those of us with “fat” fingers and is nicely featured phone for the money. Recently upgrading to the Galaxy SII from a Blackberry, I definitely like the touch screen and functionality of the SII. Being a “large” person that has big fingers, I always had trouble with typing on the Blackberry but the 4.3 inch screen on the Galaxy SII and the touch screen display provides buttons that are great for my “larger” fingerprint. The first thing you notice with this phone is how thin and light it is ( a little less than 9 mm thick and about 4 ounces) and it almost feels flimsy in your hand. This phone is fast and reacts quickly thanks to the dual core ARM processor so performing tasks like making my schedule out while surfing the web works seamlessly in this phone. The front camera is only 8 mega pixels but the camera works well. (See pic at left as it was taken with my SII in the store). The Super Amoled Plus screen is clear and crisp but does fade a little when viewing from an angle. To be honest, I looked at both the Galaxy S and the Galaxy SII and couldn’t tell the difference with the Super Amoled Display from the regular display. The 800 by 400 resolution works fine for surfing with very little scrolling. I was actually quite surprised at how much of a web page I could see before scrolling. Battery life is a little disappointing as I averaged about 6 hours on a charge with heavy usage of surfing, taking pics, uploading them to Facebook, and talking a lot. I used the flash a lot in my tests so that could be one reason. It has 16 GB of storage and a micro SD slot for up to 32 Gigs more. The Apps are perfect for someone like me that uses a scheduler, talks, and surfs the web. There is one handy feature I like and that is the “Live Panel.” It gives me instant access to my “Reader’s Hub” and “Music Hub” right on the front of the phone in an “easy to get to” format. The price of this model was roughly $450 US dollars in S.E. Asia for an unlocked phone. I am not what would be considered a “power user” by any means but this phone is a great upgrade from my Blackberry and I would recommend it to anyone that has “Fat” fingers like me.
