Yellow Jackets From Sing Off

The Sing Off is having Halloween night tonight where the groups will open with a medley of scary songs and then perform individually. Who will stay and who will be eliminated? The Yellow Jackets had a close call last week as they were in the bottom two but The Collective was sent home. This week, the groups will each be doing a medley of three songs by a Pop Music star. This should really showcase all the groups as it will be a lot easier to do “Pop” than it was to do “Hip Hop”. We saw quite a few teams struggle with making their routines last week and some really struggled. Seven groups remain and one will be sent home tonight. Check back here as we will be bringing updates throughout the show.

The show opens with a medley of songs. I was impressed that they did “Werewolves of London” in the number. You don’t see that one very often.
Urban Method is up first and they have chosen to do three songs from Rihanna. Sara says it was a strong finish but she says they started slowly though. Shawn says it was good to see the ladies. Ben says they started strong but the middle came apart a little.
Vocal Point is next up with a tribute to Elvis. This is pretty good and they have made it a tribute without being an impersonation. Ben says he liked the medley within the medley. Sarah says it was great and they pushed the arrangement well. Shawn says he laughed and he cried from all the mood changes in the performance.
Afro-Blue does a Janet Jackson tribute. Shawn says the transitions were interesting and overthink things sometime but it was great. Ben says it was a radical arrangement and he liked it. Sarah says the look like they are having fun and enjoy singing together.
Dartmouth Aires is up now and they are doing “Queen” songs. These guys are nailing this. Sarah says it is her favorite performance of the entire season. Shawn says this was like watching a Broadway play and it was awesome. Ben says it was a great group effort and it was perfect.
Pentatonix is up and they are doing Brittney Spears. Shawn says that these guys are good and all the transitions were great. Ben and Sarah have just a little criticism but say it was good.
Delilah is doing an Alicia Keys medley. Their vocals are OK but this performance just doesn’t have the energy of the ones we have seen so far tonight. Sarah says she loved the first number and the middle song got a little squirrely but the last song came right back. Shawn says it was another smart arrangement with the right singers in the right parts. He really liked this. Ben says is was great overall and give “A+” to just about everybody.
The Yellow Jackets are doing “Billy Joel” tonight. They are back! This was great and Ben says the start was great and the mouth percussion was fantastic. Shawn said this was a different side of the group that he has never seen and it was good. Sarah says this was great and it was a strong choice for them.

It is decision time and Dartmout Aires, Pentatonix, and Vocal Point are going on. Delilah and Afro-Blue are safe. Urban Method is safe. The Yellow Jackets are eliminated. What do you think about the decision? Check back next week for another recap of The Sing Off.

I love how the criticism doesn’t match the results.

Honestly, here I think the YJ just had the misfortune of being the weakest of the remaining all male college groups that night. If DA had a weak performance on their Queen medley they probably would have been gone. But instead they killed it, and Vocal Point also did well.

Was nice to see Committed again. While I felt last season they were weaker than SCS, they still came out and gave an excellent polished performance tonight. Way better than Nota was on last years show (Man the talent keeps improving on this show, it’s incredible).
