Dr. Oz: Escape Your Shape with Breakthrough Body Type Diets

Are you an apple or a pear? There are quite a few body types out there each with both their scientific names (ectomorph, mesomorph, etc.) and their more playful laymen names (the apple and pear body types). Dr. Oz has his own terminology for two of the most worrisome body types for women today: the “Big Butt Body” and the “Big Belly Body.” Find out below if you fit into any of these body types, and if you do, what you can do about it.

The Big Butt Body Type

Believe it or not, but the fat that makes your butt big is actually healthy fat. This kind of fat is called subcutaneous fat. Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to get rid of because there are no blood vessels running through it. It’s the layer of fat directly underneath the skin, but do not fear for Dr. Oz still has tips and tricks for us to help get this kind of fat into shape. But first, how do you know if you’re the “Big Butt” body type? Here are some qualities of those with this kind of body type:

  • You have subcutaneous fat.
  • You have reduced blood flow.
  • You have difficulty with losing weight.
  • You have a lowered risk of heart attack.

For the “Big Butt” body type, Dr. Oz prescribes this diet:

  • NO saturated fats.
  • NO processed foods.
  • Avoid carbohydrates as much as possible.
  • Drink low fat dairy (like 2% milk) with every meal – the calcium will help with your weight loss.
  • LOTS of whole grain foods.

Your sample daily meal would look like:

  • For breakfast – Low fat yogurt with a granola bar and some fruit.
  • For lunch – Cottage cheese with vegetables.
  • For dinner – A turkey burger with a side of salad.
  • Snack – A cup of low fat milk and some dark chocolate.

Your  exercises for your workout program would include:

  • You’ll need a TOTAL body workout to get your butt into shape, so your first exercise will be the Curtsy Squat. This will work your gluteus maximus (your butt muscle), and your core (your abs and lower back).
  • After working your lower body above, focus on your upper body. You can do push ups, chest presses, shoulder presses. Remember, working out will NOT making you big and bulky. In fact, moderate exercise will help keep your body burning fat well after your workout session.
  • If you’re short on time, Dr. Oz mentions an exercise known as “Complexes” which incorporate the use of a band where you can combine upper and lower body exercises like squats and rows into one movement. Doing all of these exercises will increase your overall metabolism and help tone your body (and that butt) at the same time.

  • Stop wearing baggy clothes to hide your fats! Doing this will only bring more attention to your problem areas.
  • Wear dark colors below, and bright colors up top.
  • Your top should be no longer than the middle of your hips.
  • Avoid jeans with cuts that hug your hips too tightly.
  • Wear wide-legged trousers.

The Big Belly Body Type

Unlike our big butt fat, big belly fat is not healthy. In fact, it’s quite life-threatening. Big butt fat doesn’t surround any of our body’s organs. The fats around our bellies, however, coat the intestinal system.  As a result, a big belly is more likely to have fat around the heart as well. Worse yet, the heart of a big bellied person has been shown to be harder – not a good thing. But do not fear for Dr. Oz again has tips and tricks for us to help get this kind of fat into shape. But first, how do you know if you’re the “Big Belly” body type? Here are some qualities of those with this kind of body type:

  • You have visceral fat – the bad, unhealthy kind of fat.
  • You have a high risk of heart disease, cancer, and Type II diabetes.
  • Your metabolism is a lot slower than normal
  • Fortunately, even though it’s less healthier than butt fat, belly fat is much easier to lose.

For the “Big Belly” body type, Dr. Oz prescribes this diet:

  • A low fat diet won’t help much here for you because your stress hormones will prevent you from losing that fat. Instead, your diet should focus on plenty of anti-inflammatory foods.
  • As such, avoid simple carbs for whole grain carbs like buckwheat or barley.
  • Also, supplement those healthier grains with healthy fats from foods like avocados and fish.

For an anti-inflammatory snack, try Dr. Oz’s Anti-Inflammatory Toast recipe. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Whole grain bread like Ezekiel bread.
  • A sliced avocado.
  • A sliced lemon.
  • Some olive oil.
  • Some red chili flakes.

Your  exercises for your workout program would include:

  • Fitness guru, Geralyn Coopersmith, shares that cardiovascular workouts should be the centerpiece of your fitness regimen.
  • But you’ll need more than running on that treadmill, try something called metabolic disturbance training which will push your heart in a way that’ll keep your the fire inside burning that belly fat.

  • Don’t wear a flashy belt. It will draw even more attention to your big belly!
  • Wear a V neckline top to draw more attention to your face.
  • Choose solid, dark colored tops.
  • Avoid wearing tops with horizontal, busy, or billowy designs.
