The Second Official Trailer Reveals Interesting Key Points for the Storyline Heading to Despicable Me 2 10/31/12
When the world first experienced the cute and lovable yellow minions on the big screen back in 2010, they were quickly accepted with open arms because of their non-verbal style of comedy that just reached out to viewers globally (aside from being irresistibly cute). When word got out that “Despicable Me 2″ was in the works for their encore performance, many excited fans couldn’t wait to see their lovable yellow characters.
Early this year, the teaser trailer for “Despicable Me 2″ pegged four (4) minions doing their mumbled rendition of the Beach Boys classic, “Barbara Ann” and that video went viral once it was released! If you hadn’t seen that clip, where have you been?!
Just today, the second official trailer for the highly anticipated return of the minions has been released courtesy of Apple Trailers. This time; however, the preview paid homage to the Halloween season rather than do another comical take on another tune. It wasn’t a horror classic parody either and focused more on the story surrounding their current lives (or so I think after watching the trailer).
After two of the assigned minions put Agnes (Elsie Kate Fisher) (the little girl famously known for saying, “It’s so FLUFFY I’m going to die”) to sleep, they start goofing around by trying to play golf inside the house until a ruckus outside catches their attention to which they must check to see if the perimeter of the house is still intact. They investigate and find out a stray cat has been rummaging through their garbage. The two laugh it off. Then, a bright light from the sky targets them and abducts the slapstick heroes.
Back in the house, a minion dressed up as the maid, stops from vacuuming and goes to answer the front door. As soon as the minion opens the door and greets the unforeseen visitor, the minion screams as he/she gets nabbed.
I could be wrong about this, but after seeing this second trailer, I strongly believe that this could be the plot heading into the sequel. Think about it for a minute, when you think about “Despicable Me”, do you honestly think about the other characters or even the main story of the first part? The only notable line I could recall comes from Agnes after she saw the stuffed unicorn at the carnival. Aside from that line, Agnes, and the yellow stooges, that’s all the highly recallable facets of this franchise.
My theory here is, what if ALL minions were kidnapped?
In the first movie, we never really learned how Gru (Steve Carell) “created” these adorable beings or how he was able to have them multiply in number. There was no origins story behind their existence.
As more and more people around the world focus on these yellow beings, it would be such a strong selling point for the sequel if the plot completely revolved around these multi-numbered characters against the first’s storyline where Gru struggled in being the anti-hero that he so desperately tried to be as against the father-figure he could possibly be after all.
So there’s my take on the plot for “Despicable Me 2″. Expect a deeper understanding as to how these minions came to life under the supervision on one Mr. Gru.
As soon as Illumination Entertainment or Universal Pictures releases the official synopsis for “Despicable Me 2″, I promise you that Nerdles will be first on that revelation when it comes out.
