American Idol Recap: Curtis Goes Home–with Nicki? (3/14/13) |
Judge Nicki Minaj says that if Curtis goes home, she’s going home, too. Surprisingly, the judges don’t use the single unanimous save of the season. Angie, Kree and Candice are in the top 3. Charlie and Aubrey sing off for the 11th spot in the Idol Tour. Phillip Phillips performs his quadruple platinum song “Gone, Gone, Gone.” Bon Jovi performs a song from What About Now.
Jimmy Iovine says that Curtis won’t make it past Top 8 if he doesn’t veer away from his Gospelish songs. He thinks that Paul Jolley is doing just pop, not pop-country like Paul claims to do, and basically writes him off.
For the first time in AI history, the results are detailed. Devin is Number 1 in Puerto Rico with 25% of the votes; Janelle and Candice, in their hometowns of Tennessee, 30% and South Carolina 42%.
Although American Idol doesn’t reveal who among the three are first, second and third, the other rankings are: 4th, Lazaro; 5th, Amber; 6th, Janelle; 7th, Burnell; 8th, Paul Jolley; 9th, Devin.
In the top 3 are Candice, Angie and Kree. The Woodville mayor gives her the key to Woodville after she gives him a hug. Host Ryan Seacrest asks Angie and Lazaro to stand. They both sang Kelly Clarkson songs last night. Lazaro apologizes to Angie for getting more than her 17% in Florida.
The 10 finalists perform “Shine Your Way” from The Croods, which hits theaters on March 22. I like Angie’s and Curtis’ parts, Angie’s especially, because I was wondering whose voice was standing out in the chorus. Candice just got the high notes. Devin had a solo part, too.
Bon Jovi performs a song from their album What About Now, on tour now. Yawn.
An eleventh spot in the American Idol Tour goes to one runner-up. There’s a sing-off between the top guy and top girl runner-ups, Charlie Askew and Aubrey Cleland. Charlie sings his own composition “Sky Diamond.” When Ryan announces Aubrey’s name after Charlie’s composition, I think that she has no chance. She sings “Out Here On My Own” well, but where’s the artistry? The votes from americanidol.com will be revealed on Wednesday.

Phillip Phillips sings “Gone, Gone, Gone,” which sounds like his other songs. He sounds the same as when he was a contestant. Judge Randy Jackson gives Phillip a quadruple platinum poster for “Gone, Gone, Gone.”

Are you kidding me? Charlie one of the best? I must have gotten him mixed up with some other curly-haired no-talent. Come on. It’s all about the sympathy vote for him and Lazaro. Neither are that great. And Curtis was a bully who deserved to go home. He was so stuck on himself in Hollywood, that no amount of talent can redeem him in my eyes. Besides, he doesn’t have all that much and I’m hoping Nikki will stand by her promise and LEAVE now!
You’re right, Suzi, Charlie’s singing voice is not great, but he does know how to distinguish himself, unlike Aubrey. Zoanette, on the other hand, puts on the best show but has even less talent than Askew. Ya, Curtis the Choir Leader was arrogant. What do you mean that Finch doesn’t have all that much? So who did you vote for? So you don’t like Nicki either? Who among the judges do you like and if it were up to you, what would the panel look like?
A complete miscarriage of talent evaluation. How all four judges could not save Curtis IS A SHAM. My confidence and respect for the whole concept of “American Idol” has been forever shattered. I havn’t missed one presentation since the beginning of the 2013 season but I will never, ever, watch this type of program again. So wrong!
I was surprised, too, Elliott. I thought that this was going to be the season when they use the save at the first opportunity. I guess the judges are saving the save for Kree, Angie and Candice. Who among the three judges split the panel? It could have been down to one judge, actually. Mariah says that this show was all about Curtis. So who was the bad guy, Randy or Keith? He was the best singer in the semifinals and, along with Askew, the best guy in Hollywood Week and Vegas. I guess his paisley jacket last night did him in.
