America’s Got Talent reveals its first six acts that will comprise this season’s top 12. Last night’s performances were generally attention-grabbing despite some minor mishaps and errors. Disappointment came from contestants that were expected to cruise through the semis and the judges feel that nerves may gotten the best out of them. These included Jonathan Allen, Catapult Entertainment, Innovative Force and Dave Fenley.
Based on the judges reviews and the audience’s reactions, confidence is currently running high for Forte, Cami Bradley and Taylor Williamson; both acts received tremendous reception that could positively influence viewers’ perception. Some had errors but still got some of the judges’ support, of which are Red Panda and Collins Key.
In the end, the acts that are going through to the next round are: Innovative Force, Forte, Collins Key, Taylor Williamson, Cami Bradley and the judges’ choice (with Mel B’s exception) Catapult Entertainment.
Tonight, the show treats us to two products of reality talent shows. First off is Cassadee Pope (The Voice winner from two seasons ago) who sings her single “Wasting All These Tears”. Cassadee leaves a good advice for the contestants: it doesn’t matter how far you’ve come (in the competition), what matters is the work done afterwards. Cassadee’s album debuts on October. One Direction turns Radio City Music Hall into a screaming/ crying fest amongst fans with their single “Best Song Ever”. They also promote their movie (“This Is Us”) which opens on Friday, August 30th.
Here’s how the results were unveiled: the first batch pitted Innovative Force against Tone the Chiefrocca and Red Panda. The dance group’s triumph came quite as a surprise, considering that Red Panda had all the drama going on for her. Forte lined up with Duo Resonance and Jonathan Allen; their progress prompted Howie Mandel to stand by his conviction that the trio will win the this season. This left Stern no choice but to retort that his co-judge’s comment is meaningless since he keeps making calls as to who will win.
Taylor Williamson overpowered fellow-comic Angela Hoover and followed Collins Key’s upward move in the show. Taylor also got two extra compliments before leaving the stage: Heidi Klum’s two thumbs up (an implicit indication of her transformation into a “Taylord”) and Stern’s shower of praises on his delivery and material.
Cami Bradley’s popular vote sent her to the top 12 and left the judges to decide between Catapult and Dave Fenley. Heidi, Stern and Howie all agreed that where the finals is concerned, Catapult deserves it more than Dave. This came as a shock especially since Howie had nothing but admiration for Dave, including his call that the contestant had one of the best performances last night.
