Ellen DeGeneres wins Favorite Daytime TV Host for the 14th time at the People’s Choice Awards 2014. Sandra Bullock wins Favorite Movie Actress, which automatically makes her Favorite Comedic Movie Actress. The 20/20 Experience by Justin Timberlake is Favorite Album. He also wins Favorite R&B Artist.
The show starts off with Caroline Channing and Max Black of 2 Broke Girls suggesting 2 Broke Girls to Mayim Bialik/Amy Farrah Fowler and Melissa Rauch/Bernadette Maryann Rostenkowski-Wolowitz. They still go with Big Bang Theory. Then Ian Somerhalder/Damon Salvatore of Vampire Diaries hits on Max. Kaley Cuoco gives them her invite to host People’s Choice. Max then goes through the TV movie nominees and forgets one. Sharknado, reminds Ian Zierling/Fin Shepard. A shark topples from above and IanFin brings out his saw.
Before Beth Behrs tells us that People’s Choice Awards 2014 is the 1st awards show of the year, we see Heidi Klum and Queen Latifah in the audience. Kat Dennings says that that means that we honor the achievements of the past 8 days. We also learn that this is the only awards show that has Oprah Winfrey and Sharknado as nominees.
Beth wants to sing because people think that she’s really a waitress. Country Star Brad Paisley follows up on his cheeseburger. When Kat sets him straight, Beth says that if the sexy country singer thinks she’s a waitress, then she is. Heidi Klum then follows up on her order. When she stands up, she reveals her deep-cut gown that doesn’t look slutty only on her. A whole cast of 2 Broke Girls-clad waitresses come out with trays of burgers and fries.
Anna Faris & Allison Janney present the awards for Favorite Daytime TV Host and Favorite New Talk Show Host. Stana Katic of Castle introduces Sara Bareilles (pronounced with silent “i”), who performs “Brave”. Stana’s gown is on the dowdy side, something that Castle’s mom Martha Rodgers (Susan Sullivan) wouldn’t be caught in. Couldn’t Stana have asked the Castle stylist’s help? How can a cop’s salary buy more fashionable clothes than a star of a hit show? BTW, Sara is a bit screechy.
Favorite Comedic Movie Actress
Sandra Bullock (Winner)
Favorite Movie Actress: Sandra Bullock, which automatically makes her Favorite Comedic Movie Actress
Before Presenter Sean Hayes of Will & Grace announced the winner, he says that he was relieved that his wife won. If not, it would have been an awkward ride home. Rajesh Koothrappali would be happy, too, as he thinks that Sandra Bullock looks good in everything. The other nominees are:
Favorite Album, presented by Jessica Alba
Winner: The 20/20 Experience by Justin Timberlake, which makes him Favorite R&B Artist. When his name is announced, Ellen DeGeneres starts to go up the steps to the stage. Justin stops her, they hug and he thanks her onstage, for the inspiration and cookies. He then apologizes to his team for putting up with his neuroses everyday. Then he says, “Not really” then points to his trophy. He also thanks his wife for her patience and teaching him to put dishes in the dishwasher. He also thanks the fans for voting. The show has a light feel to it, with the women are in dresses, not gowns, and no one crying. But don’t the fans pay their bills?
Bangers by Miley Cyrus
Based on a True Story by Blake Shelton
Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke
To Be Loved by Michael Buble
Favorite Competition TV Show
The Voice (Winner). Producer Mark Burnett, who also produces People’s Choice Awards, accepts the award in the control room with headphones on. But wearing a snazzy tux. Kat praises Mark for his “great speech”, as he says nothing. He just raises the trophy a few times looking pleased. Note that Voice rival The American Idol was not even nominated.
Before the win, the judges and Carson Daly do confession segments similar to those in The Voice. Blake denies having a bromance with Adam Levine, that they’ve only hooked up a couple of times. Carson is not jealous of the on-screen bromance, because in real life, Cee Lo lives with Carson, his wife and kids.
Christina Aguilera says that people ask her how it feels to work with “The Sexiest Man Alive”, referring to Adam. Of course, she says that it’s great to work with Cee-Lo Green.
America’s Got Talent
Favorite Daytime TV Host
Ellen DeGeneres wins her 14th PCA award. She says that her show is for blacks, whites, old, young, straights and gays. She says that she spoke with a single, African-American woman who works 80 hours a week, and watches her show everyday. That woman’s name is Oprah Winfrey. The audience laughs.
Steve Harvey, my favorite
Kelly Ripa & Michael Strahan
Favorite New Talk Show Host
Queen Latifah, the predictable Winner, even though it’s her 1st win. She’s been nominated 3x. She thanksProducing Partner Jada Pinkett & Will Smith.
Favorite Humanitarian: Jennifer Hudson, for her work for the Julian D. King Gift Foundation, which she founded. The foundation gives toys, school supplies and a dinner to kids.
With her smart short do and slim figure, she looks a bit like Alicia Keys. Take note, Stana. Jennifer accepts the award with big sister Julia, who is more ways than one her big sister. I’d like to see Jennifer go on Dr. Oz to talk about her diet. Julia could go on Extreme Weight Loss or The Biggest Loser.
