“Wall Street” leads the weekend box office

“Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps ruled the box office during its opening weekend. The sequel by Oliver Stone starring Michael Douglas and Shia LeBeouf, raked in $19 million over its first three-day weekend. Coming in second place was another newcomer, “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” with a weekend gross of $16.3 million. In her latest film project set during the war in Bosnia, Angelina Jolie wanted to use as many local actors as possible. And, according to reports she is holding true to her word. Relatively unknown Bosnian actress, Zana Marjanovic, 27, has been cast in the leading role. The actress told Reuters, “I can confirm my new exciting engagement in the first film directed by Angelina Jolie in which I will have the lead role.” The film, which will begin shooting in Budapest this week, tells the story about a romance that builds between a Bosnian woman and a Serbian man. “King’s Speech” garnering Oscar buzz

A Toronto International Film Festival winner of the Cadillac People’s Choice Award, buzz is brewing around “The King’s Speech” as a contender for the golden statue. According to the LA Times, two movies that have won this award “American Beauty” and “Slumdog Millionaire” went on to nab Oscars. “The Town” leads the weekend box office

This weekend showed an increase in box office traffic as movie goers who are settled in after the back-to-school frenzy are out seeing films again. New releases dominated the take over the weekend. Earning an estimated $24 million in its opening weekend, Ben Affleck’s “The Town,” a crime thriller set in Boston led the way. The film stars Affleck and Jeremy Renner.
