Duets Premiere! Live! (5/24/12 recap)

Duets,-5.24.12,-1

Tonight is the premiere of Duets. The reality TV singing competition that will take two to win – one superstar and one aspiring dreamer. This is a one-of-a-kind singing competition that puts the judges on the stage with the contestants themselves. The judges, the superstars, journey across America looking for undiscovered talent who are worthy to be their proteges. When all is said and done, only one duet will remain at the top of the charts. The winning amateur will then receive their very own recording contract to one day become a superstar themselves. (Note: We are live recapping this…

Week 2 of The Voice’s battle rounds was another high moment this season as the artists pushed their limits further from what we’ve already seen during their blind auditions. From tonight’s duets, two stood out: the power sing-off between Toia Jones and DaNica Shirey at the end of the show and Taylor Brashears’ uber poise in her battle with Bree Fondacaro. One battle ended on a high note while the other showed a kind of singing prowess that can’t just be ignored. I’m referring to Taylor’s knock-out attitude on stage that speaks volumes of confidence, fierceness and power. Let’s start…

The Voice Recap: Alicia Keys lets Luke Wade & Griffin loose on Paul McCartney hit (10/13/14)

10.13.14 the voice

The battle round debuted tonight on The Voice; so far, this may just be the most smashing season in terms of guest mentors and the duets. Adam Levine brought in the legendary Stevie Nicks, Blake Shelton enlisted country chart toppers Little Big Town, Gwen Stefani engaged husband Gavin Rossdale and Pharrell had R&B all-around hitmaker Alicia Keys (photo in this recap). The best thing that happened tonight, however, was Alicia Keys’ touch of brilliance that had Luke Wade and Griffin suddenly unearthing their biggest soul potential in a Paul McCartney hit. The end result was a gripping performance and probably…

The Voice Recap: Can Will Champlin Tide Over Tessanne Chin & Jacquie Lee in Finale Performances? (12/16/13)

12.16.13 the voice

We’re finally down to The Voice’s finale performances, the last chance Tessanne Chin, Will Champlin and Jacquie Lee will get to prove if they’re worthy of a big win and a record deal. Among the three, Tessanne and Jacquie had a relatively easier ride this season with their mentors (Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera, respectively) faithfully staying with them each week. Will had a rougher time but he makes a compelling example of an artist’s phenomenal ride backed by tenacity (having paid his dues in the music industry) despite stumbling along the way. Interestingly, Will started with Adam, got stolen…

The Voice Recap: “Gone Too Soon” for Judith Hill, Sarah Simmons & Adam Levine

thevoice.5.28.13

Tuesdays on The Voice’s live broadcast is a mix of frenzy and woe with two great artists about to go home in an hour’s time. The biggest pressure falls on Shakira and Usher who each have one artist left. Towards the middle of the show, Usher ends up lifting Michelle Chamuel off the ground when she gets the first seat to next week’s show. Several minutes later, Shakira explodes in a celebratory gesture as Sasha Allen learns that she, too, is moving forward. And then there’s the shocker: Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons, two consistent powerhouses, go home on the…
